Awareness Through Movement (ATM) is a ~6o minute class done in a group setting, offered on Zoom or In-Person. Each lesson highlights novel movement patterns and specific kinesthetic relationships to uncover/recall more possibilities in the way you organize yourself to better serve you in doing the things you want to do. I co-teach class with Feldenkrais practitioner, Krista Langberg.

Drop-in any time to our ongoing Monday evening and Friday morning classes at East Lake Aikido in the Longfellow neighborhood in Minneapolis. These classes are meant for anyone who is interested in deepening their self-awareness and possibilities of action, regardless of previous experience in the Feldenkrais Method. The space will be open 10 minutes before class begins. Please arrive 5-10 minutes early, especially if you are new, to sign in and familiarize yourself with the space. Wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move in—having a long-sleeve layer is helpful to adjust to temperature shifts. We provide blankets to practice on and any props needed for specific lessons.

Your hand works differently than your thigh, your foot works differently than your pelvis, your mouth differently from your abdomen. The tissues are different, the sizes and shapes are different, they occupy different locations in the organism that is you, and therefore are each optimized for specific types of action. And yet each part of you is connected to every other part of you, all a part of the whole of you, and are essential for participating in and supporting everything you do. To make an action possible and easy, and eventually elegant, learning how to equally and proportionally use all these parts in harmony is essential. In this six-week series we will focus on the ways we distribute an action throughout ourselves, where we find stability and power, and where we find dexterity and deftness, in a continuing process of self-refinement.

WHAT TO EXPECT
ATM class most often takes place lying down, but occasionally in sitting or standing. I provide verbal proposals and guide learners as they move. There is a strong emphasis on moving slowly, easily, and staying within the range of personal comfort so that you can refine your sense of what you are doing and how you are doing it. ATM is perhaps different from other movement classes in that its goals are not about stretching, strengthening, relaxing, meditating, or imitating. Instead lessons are designed to engage your curiosity in yourself and to refine your innate powers of awareness. I co-teach all classes with Feldenkrais practitioner Krista Langberg.
Cost per class is $10-$25 sliding scale (cash/check/venmo/ paypal). If cost is a barrier for you, please pay what you can, even if it’s below the sliding scale.
